Ground Consultants Limited recently undertook a full Phase 1 and 2 ground investigation at a potential development site in Newquay
The investigation was preceded by a Phase 1 Desk Study and associated mine search, in order to determine the geological, geotechnical and environmental site setting. Phase 1 Desk Studies (otherwise known as contaminated land reports) are a vital first step in building a comprehensive ground model from which a development is built.
Following the Phase 1 Desk Study, our team of engineers attended site for four days completing percolation testing, windowless sampling and CBR testing. Automatic data-loggers were employed within percolation test pits in order to obtain a continuous and high-quality data-set.
In-situ testing such as Standard Penetration Tests and CBRs, combined with a full suite of both environmental and geotechnical laboratory testing, allowed for comprehensive foundation design options, as well as a generic quantitative risk assessment (GQRA).
Our investigation was completed on time and within budget, allowing our Client to proceed with the next step in providing housing for the thriving town of Newquay.
