Trevemper Site Nears Completion

Ground Consultants Limited (GCL) have over the past 12 months been involved in the implementation and verification of earthworks relating to the construction of a petrol filling station and new link road at Trevemper, Newquay.

A number of ground investigations have been completed over various phases, indicating the presence of landfill material across much of the site, presenting both environmental and geotechnical challenges.

Ground improvement techniques such as vibro-stone columns were employed across the site, as well as a series of criblock retaining walls to facilitate the elevation change.

Vibro-stone columns, also known as vibro-replacement or aggregate piers, are a ground improvement technique used to enhance the load-bearing capacity and stability of weak or loose soils. This method involves the installation of cylindrical stone columns into the ground using a specialized vibrating probe.
